Our History
Carolyn grew up in a family that loved animals. Her dad and mom broke and showed Arabian horses, and they raised beagles. Toby’s dad grew up on a farm and loved animals, so while Toby was growing up, he also had his share of caring for dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and pet mice. After finishing high school, Carolyn attended Moore Park College as a student in the Exotic Animal Program. There she worked with lions, tigers, monkeys, birds of prey, and many other species. She discovered that she really enjoyed caring for sick and injured animals, so she became a veterinary nurse at an animal hospital in California. Circumstances moved her to Arizona, where she had many years of experience working in the animal care field beside oncologist, general practice, and emergency room veterinarians. In Arizona, she met Toby. The two of them shared important core values and developed a special connection. After a short courtship, they married. Carolyn has personally owned many different kinds of pets including various dogs, cats, a red-tail boa constrictor, a marmoset monkey, a ferret, trained rats and an opossum. In late 2003, after thirteen years of working with veterinarians, an injury she suffered while assisting in the treatment of an animal, ended her career in the veterinary field. It was very upsetting for her, because she had always loved working with animals and could not see herself doing anything else. It was and is still her passion. In 2004, she and Toby came up with the idea of starting a pet-sitting business. They brainstormed business names and by mid 2004, Pets R Family Too! was launched. Carolyn and Toby have built the business over the years on the idea that pets are an important part of a family unit and have several pet family members of their own. Their clients feel this same way, and know that their pets and homes are in good hands. Their services are performed in a personable, yet professional manner. They have enjoyed developing a successful family-owned business with a growing client base, which occasionally includes clients with pets that have special medical needs.
